A recent investigation has been opened into the death of Temptations singer Dennis Edwards. This was reported by a spokesperson with the Chicago Police Department. A Cook County spokesperson from the Medical Examiner’s office also reiterated the “manner and cause of death are still pending.”
The 74-year-old Edwards died February 2, one day shy of his 75th birthday because of complications from Meningitis, his widow Brenda said. An emergency protective order had been filed by the Health Care Consortium of Illinois against Brenda Edwards, claiming she abused her husband and according to the order, Mr. Edwards had been immobile and bedbound after a fall in 2017. It also cited that “someone had tried to suffocate him by holding his head face down on the bed.”
The Detroit News reported the protective order said Ms. Edwards was removed from their Chicago home due to medical issues. Ms. Edwards denies the allegations of abuse and recapitulated her love for the legendary artist. She said, ” I love Dennis and we were married 18 years.” She said through her publicist,” the allegations are false and defamatory.” “I have no further comment until this is over with.”
Edward’s daughter, Issa Pointer-Stewart with Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters said: “she and her siblings had been kept away from him and he had left an indelible mark on her life.”
Funeral Services have been set for Dennis Edwards and a public viewing and “Celebration of Life” will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at Faith Miracle Temple, 870 Pershall Road, in St. Louis.
