Unfortunately, Backbeatrnb, sadly announces the death of the R&B icon on April 20, 2017. Mr. Gooding Sr. was found slumped over, in his car on Thursday in Woodlawn Hills California. LAPD spokesperson said there were no signs of foul play and the cause of death is pending a medical investigation.
Cuba Gooding Sr was the lead singer of the group “The Main Ingredient” and rose to fame in the 70’s. The group formed in Harlem, New York in 1964 and “the Gooding era began auspiciously with the million-selling smash hit in 1972 “Everybody Plays the Fool” which hit number two R&B and number three pop to become their group’s biggest hit. It sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in September “. In 1974, the “Main Ingredient” peaked #8 on the R&B Charts with “Just Don’t Want To Be Lonely” which too sold over a million copies.
Gooding Sr. later became a minor actor himself, in the movie “Radio”, Gooding Jr, who plays Radio can be seen listening to the “Main Ingredient” in one scene of the movie.
Cuba Gooding Sr, is survived by his wife, singer Shirley Gooding. They have four children: actors Cuba Gooding Jr., Omar Gooding, April Gooding and musician Tommy Gooding.
